Leslie Walker, Payton

Leslie Walker, Payton

Leslie Walker is a student at Walter Payton College Prep from the Southside of Chicago. She enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing the saxophone. She joined OTM in 2018 and her articles vary from agriculture to the stock market. She will be attending Brown University as a member of the Program of Liberal Medical Education. Her favorite money quote is "Money is a scarce resource and should be deployed in the most efficient way possible."

London Gibson-Purcell, Whitney

London Gibson-Purcell, Whitney

London Gibson-Purcell is a 16 year old sophomore at Whitney M. Young High School in the Class of 2022. She is interested in studying journalism or business finance in the future. She is from Woodlawn on the South Side of Chicago and uses her free time reading and running. She joined On the Money magazine in the winter of 2019 and she likes to write about technology, gender/race relations, and managing money. Her favorite quote is "Use money to make more money."

Harman Dhillon, Bartlett

Harman Dhillon is an OTM intern from Chicago’s southwest suburbs. She enjoys listening to music and painting. Harman attends Bartlett High School and her academic focus is on STEM. She started OTM as a 10th grader in Spring 2020. Harman is a part of the graduating class of 2022. She typically writes about technology in the business world, and one of her favorite sayings is by Guy Kawasaki: “If you make meaning, you’ll make money.”

Arushi Chauhan, Bartlett

Arushi is from the southwest suburb of Bartlett. She enjoys baking and reading. Her academic focus is on STEM, and she attends Bartlett High School. Arushi became an OTM intern in spring 2020 as a 10th grader. Her graduating class is in 2022. She writes about environmental and energy economics, and one saying she likes is "Save money, and money will save you."

Whitney Shurtliff, Jones

Whitney Shurtliff, Jones

Whitney Shurtliff is a junior at Jones College Prep where she is Copy Editor of the school newspaper. She has been singing in the Chicago Children's Choir for 9 years and also plays the piano. Whitney grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood and hopes to pursue sociology and journalism in college next year. She is excited to gain professional writing experience with On the Money Magazine, where she has been an intern since January 2021.

Blake Berry, Whitney

Blake is a junior at Whitney Young Magnet High School from the West Loop of Chicago. He enjoys traveling, reading, and meeting new people. His hobbies include writing and playing baseball. He joined OTM in 2020 with a focus on writing about solutions to economic inequality. He is passionate about entrepreneurship, financial education, and creative writing and plans to study economics in college. His favorite money quote is, "wise people should have money in their head, but not in their heart."

Oscar Boccelli, Payton

Oscar Boccelli, a junior at Walter Payton College Prep is an Entrepreneurship Intern at OTM which he just joined during this fall quarter. He is also the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Junior Economic Club of Chicago, a student run non-profit that introduces high schoolers to the fields of Business, Finance, and Economics. He is interested in combining his interests in Economics & Statistics and hopes to study both in college. He has also conducted research at the University of Chicago

Fiona Kogan, Jones

Fiona Kogan is in the Jones College Prep Class of 2022 in Chicago’s South Loop, and lives nearby. She is currently the Design Editor for the JCP Blueprint newspaper, and is interested in further developing her skills as a journalist and an illustrator. Fiona has a strong interest in entrepreneurship and business, and in the future hopes to open her own business combining her passions for the arts and social justice. In her spare time she enjoys reading, drawing, and writing creative fiction.

Yasmine Biyashev, Payton

Yasmine Biyashev is a junior at Walter Payton and grew up in the West Loop neighborhood. She developed an interest in economics as a result of both her STEM and humanities passions and hopes to continue a career in the intersection of those fields. She believes that economics has the ability to create global change, solve social dilemmas, and better ensure equity on a greater scale. Outside of academics, Yasmine loves to read, box, and listen to music in the park.

Reena Nuygen is a student at the Latin School of Chicago, Class of 2022, and from the north side of Chicago. She enjoys reading, listening to music, and being with her friends. She joined On the Money the Fall of 2020 and aims to write articles that will spread economic awareness to young communities. She hopes to study medicine in college and her favorite money quote is, “Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”

Leo Kantrow is a junior at Walter Payton College Prep and lives in Wrigleyville. He is interested in economics and mathematics and aims to become an economist or an entrepreneur. In addition to being Co-Chair of the Economics and Investment Team, and a member of the math and chess teams at school, Leo also volunteers for several non-profits, including the Junior Economic Club of Chicago. Leo joined On The Money in early 2021 and enjoys writing about finance and the economy.

Saransh Gupta is a junior at Whitney Young High School. He got involved with On the Money last year to explore an interest in business and writing. He plans to go into a career in finance in the future.

Cormari Brown is a junior at Walter Payton College Prep, in the graduating Class of 2022. She comes from the Austin neighborhood in the Westside of Chicago. During her free time, she enjoys writing screenplays, playing the saxophone, and learning the piano. With a profound interest in Economics, she joined On the Money as an intern during the spring of 2021, with the interest of writing articles about Personal Finance. She hopes to pursue a career in finance in the future.

Sarah Lim - Lane Tech

Sarah Lim is a senior at Lane Tech. She is interested in computer science, entrepreneurship, and political science. When she’s older she hopes to do all three! She currently interns for a website developer who helped her build a website at horizonworldwide.org that helps high schoolers find internships. She also interns for Helix Cafe where she’s developing an after school program curriculum that will be spread to many schools. She joined OTM in Fall 2021 as an Entrepreneurship intern.

Karis Kelly, Taft

Karis Kelly, Taft

Karis Kelly is a sophomore at William Howard Taft High School and resides in the Mayfair neighborhood in Chicago. Karis plans to pursue a career in the medical field. She started as an OTM Intern in the Fall of 2020. Outside of OTM, Karis runs her own organization, Youth Medicine Today, and is the Assistant Marketing Officer for the Junior Economic Club of Chicago. The first article she wrote incorporates pharmacology and economics.

Raina Koshal, Payton

Raina Koshal is a sophomore at Walter Payton College Prep living in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago. Raina enjoys painting, writing, and playing lacrosse. Her favorite type of writing is personal essays. She joined OTM in fall of 2020 and enjoys writing articles which connect economics with STEM. She hope to pursue environmental engineering and later open a global nonprofit that works towards ending orphanage tourism and trafficking.

Fathima Shaikh, Payton

Fathima Shaikh is an ambitious, hard-working, young author located in the West side of Chicago who started On The Money as a freshman in the spring of 2020. She is currently attending Walter Payton College Prep High school and will be graduating in 2023. She is interested in pursuing her further studies in the business field or medical field. The first article Fathima has written incorporates topics such as health and finance.

Armaan Shah, Latin

Armaan Shah, a current sophomore at the Latin School of Chicago, resides in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood. He joined On the Money in February of 2021 as a Monthly Intern to share his passions for entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Outside of OTM, Armaan serves as a student government-grade representative, actively writes for his school’s newspaper, and plays varsity soccer and basketball.
