A BIT ABOUT US

BASED IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS

On the Money magazine is a by teens for teens publication that was founded in 2007, On the Money’s mission is to increase entrepreneurship education and the financial capability of teens through the development of peer-based educational resources, community outreach, and student-written publications. Each semester, high school interns from across the city of Chicago come together to research and publish articles relating to finance and entrepreneurship. 

Throughout the years, On the Money has grown to reach over 18,000 youth throughout Chicagoland annually. While continuing to be distributed in print, the new interactive online platform aims to allow easy access to articles as we expand our education outreach to a global scale.

Steven Li is from the South Side of Chicago. Steven is currently a senior at Walter Payton College Prep and will be attending Stanford University Class of 2024. He joined OTM in October 2018, the beginning of his junior year. Throughout his time at OTM, Steven has been invested in writing about environmental and business commentary in addition to the college application experience as a first-generation, low-income student. More recently, Steven has been spending his time working on a Kickstarter project and filmmaking as a hobby.

Lizzy Brahin is a student at Walter Payton College Prep, Class of 2021, and resides in Chicago's New Eastside neighborhood. She plans to study economics and statistics in college and pursue a career in finance. She began interning at On the Money during her sophomore year to share her passion for financial literacy. Outside of OTM, she is President of the Junior Economic Club of Chicago for the 2020-2021 school year and Executive Co-Chair of her school's Economics and Investment Team. In her free time, she enjoys playing piano and competitive chess.

Her writing focuses on investing and personal finance.

Leslie Walker

Leslie Walker is a student at Walter Payton College Prep from the Southside of Chicago. She enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing the saxophone. Her hobbies include playing the saxophone, listening to music, and binging Netflix. She joined OTM in 2018 and her articles vary from agriculture to the stock market. She plans on studying medicine in college and her favorite money quote is "Money is a scarce resource and should be deployed in the most efficient way possible."

Fathima Shaikh

Fathima Shaikh is an ambitious, hard-working, young author located in the West side of Chicago who started On The Money as a freshman in the spring of 2020. She is currently attending Walter Payton College Prep High school and will be graduating in 2023. She is interested in pursuing her further studies in the business field or medical field. The first article Fathima has written incorporates topics such as health and finance. Her favorite quote is "Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune."
